Lake Placid, N.Y. (May 21, 2021) – USA Bobsled/ Skeleton (USABS) is proud to announce that bobsled alumni and two-time Olympic medalist Curt Tomasevicz has been hired as the Director of Sports Performance, and his position will begin immediately.

“I'm extremely excited to be working with USABS again,” Tomasevicz said. “My passion for the sliding sports hasn’t faded since my days as a competing athlete. I hope to use my athletic experiences as well as my education to reach and sustain an environment of competitive excellence in skeleton and bobsled for the USA.”

In this role, Tomasevicz will be responsible for developing strategies to support athletes from recruitment to retirement. He will work closely with the head coaches and the performance staff to draft and execute the USABS High Performance Plan, develop annual schedules, and lead sports science, technology, and research projects. Tomasevicz will also work closely with the USABS Athlete Advisory Council to identify priorities to further support bobsled and skeleton athletes to achieve their goals in the sports.

Tomasevicz was a member of the 2010 Olympic four-man bobsled team that broke a 64-year gold medal drought for the United States. He went on to become a nine-time World Championship medalist, and retired as an athlete after winning the 2014 Olympic four-man bobsled silver medal. Tomasevicz remained active as a member of the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) Athlete Advisory Council, and as an athlete representative on the USABS Board of Directors. Tomasevicz also served as a member of the USABS selection committee, on the USOPC Ethics Committee, and the USOPC Research Steering Committee.

Tomasevicz holds a B.S. and M.S. in Electrical Engineering, and a Ph.D. in Biological Engineering from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, where he worked as an Assistant Professor of Practice in the Department of Biological Systems Engineering from 2014 until accepting the position with USABS.

“We are excited that Curt has rejoined the team in a new capacity,” said Aron McGuire, USABS Chief Executive Officer. “I’m confident that his experience as an athlete, his continued involvement with USABS and the USOPC, his education, and his work at the University of Nebraska will align with the responsibilities of the role.”
