Bobsled and skeleton could be sports you have been training for your entire life without realizing it. Many of the physical skills developed through other sports can translate directly to success on the ice track, helping athletes generate powerful pushes and explosive starts. While many USA bobsled and skeleton athletes come from track and field or football backgrounds, we recruit athletes from all athletic disciplines.
Top performers from the event will be invited to a Rookie Camp at USA Bobsled/Skeleton’s headquarters in Lake Placid, NY, where they will have the opportunity to push a sled on ice and take the next step in our recruitment pipeline.
For some athletes, this first step can lead all the way to the Olympic stage. At the 2026 Winter Olympics, two USA bobsled athletes who began their journeys through Slide to Glory, Hunter Powell and Caleb Furnell, made their Olympic debuts after first attending the 2024 combine.
At the event, athletes will be tested in the following events:
• 40 Yard Sprint
Measures straight line speed, acceleration, and top sprint velocity
• 5 10 5 Pro Agility Shuttle
Evaluates lateral movement, change of direction, and overall quickness
• Vertical Jump
A key indicator of explosive lower body power
• Kneeling Power Ball Toss
Measures upper body explosive strength
• Prowler Push Test
Assesses sled style pushing ability that closely replicates a bobsled or skeleton start
We hope to see you there. A future Winter Olympic champion for Team USA could be reading this right now!
No prior bobsled or skeleton experience is required. Participants must be 16 years or older. Visit USABS.com/recruitment for more info.
