Caleb Smith competed as a luge athlete for five years before transferring his experience and knowledge of sliding to skeleton. Smith graduated from Plattsburgh State University in 2006 with a B.S. degree in Environmental Science and is currently working on his B.S. in Finance. Smith believes that success in an individual sport isn't just about your own experiences. On his web site, Smith wrote: "Teams of people dedicate their time and money to support a dream that everyone has shared in one form or another, from the athletes we compete against to supporters like you."

Caleb was the salutatorian of his high school. He loves the "subtleties and nuances of wine" and enjoys spending time cooking. Caleb would like to follow his degree in finance and enter the business world after his sliding career, and is also considering pursuing wine making.
