Hoy Thurman III is a Technical Sergeant in the Georgia Air National Guard and a member of the World Class Athlete Program. Thurman joined the Air Force in 1986 as an Aircraft Weapons Systems Technician, and later in 1996 joined the Guard and became a Surveillance Radar Technician. Thurman found out about the sport of bobsled while running track in an Armed Forces Track and Championship in Long Beach, CA, but because of other family obligations, Thurman did not come out until the 2004-05 season. Thurman began his bobsled career by sliding with veteran driver Joe McDonald on the Americas Cup circuit. Later that season, Thurman and McDonald won the two-man overall award and overall 2man & 4man combined for that season.
