Americans miss second heat in men’s two-man bobsled World Cup in Altenberg

ALTENBERG, Germany (December 18, 2021) – Codie Bascue (Whitehall, N.Y.) teamed with Carlo Valdes (Newport Beach, Calif.) to finish 22nd in the men’s two-man bobsled World Cup race in Altenberg today. They were followed closely behind by their teammates Hunter Church (Cadyville, N.Y.) and Josh Williamson (Lake Mary, Fla.), who finished 23rd. Neither U.S. team qualified for the second heat.


Bascue and Valdes had the 14th ranked start time of 5.30 seconds for a downtime of 56.42 seconds, which was 22nd of the heat. Church and Williamson posted the 22nd ranked push time of 5.39 seconds for the 23rd best time of 56.56 seconds. 


Germany’s Francesco Friedrich hasn’t lost a race yet this season. He teamed with Thorsten Margis to win today with a combined time of 1:50.37. Christoph Hafer and Issam Ammour of Germany finished second with a two-run total of 1:50.59. Canadians Justin Kripps and Cam Stones were third in 1:50.68.


The U.S. team will be reevaluated after tomorrow’s races. The two-woman bobsled race will take place at 10 a.m., followed by the four-man bobsled competition at 2:30 p.m. Streaming will be available via desktop at olympics.com/en/live/, and via mobile, tablet and connected television platforms on the Olympic Channel app. Check local listings for broadcast times on the Olympic Channel and OlympicChannel.com.
