TEAM USA RESUMES WORLD CUP SLIDING IN 2024

ST, MORITZ, SWITZERLAND (January 14, 2024) - Team USA resumed the World Cup circuit in 2024 this weekend with three days of racing in the Swiss Alps.
On January 12, the action started on a high note with Katie Uhlaender securing a 3rd-place finish in Women’s Skeleton with her time of 2:19.45. After persevering through injury, this was the five-time Olympian’s first World Cup race back after recovery and first World Cup medal in eleven years.
“St. Moritz is an amazing track and may be the location for the 2026 Olympics. I am really excited about the support I had coming off another surgery and looking forward to one last Olympics that starts and finishes my career in the same country. My boyfriend has been a great support, and my friends and family have been there to cheer me on! I could not be happier,” shared Uhlaender about her phenomenal performance.
Also in Women’s Skeleton, Mystique Ro slid into 8th with a time of 2:19.97 and Sara Roderick placed 15th with a time of 2:20.83.
In Men’s Skeleton, Dan Barefoot, Austin Florian, and Hunter Williams competed for Team USA. Barefoot placed 16th with a two-run time of 2:16.32, Austin Florian placed 20th with a time of 2:16.70 and Hunter Williams placed 29th with his one-run time of 1:09.23.
Additionally, in World Cup Skeleton events, there was a special Skeleton Mixed Team competition in which Florian and Roderick competed, bringing home 14th place for Team USA.
On January 13th, the action continued with Women’s Monobob and 2-Man Bobsled. In Women’s Monobob, Elana Meyers Taylor narrowly missed the podium with her fourth-place finish with a time of 2:23.25. Kaysha Love placed ninth with a time of 2:24.01 and Lauren Brzozowski placed 19th with a time of 2:26.36.
In 2-Man Bobsled, Frank Del Duca and Adrian Adams placed 13th with a two-run time of 2:212.73 while Kris Horn and Darius Joseph placed 22nd with a 1-run time of 1:07.07.
January 14th brought two more events for the Stars and Stripes with 2-Woman and 4-Man bobsled competitions. In 2-Woman, Love and Azaria Hill placed sixth with their time of 2:17.85 while Meyers Taylor and Emily Renna placed eighth with a time of 2:18.04 and Brzozowski and Jasmine Jones placed 18th with a time of 2:20.14.
In 4-Man, Del Duca alongside teammates Josh Williamson, Hakeem Abdul-Saboor and Manteo Mitchell placed 14th with a time of 2:10.72 and Geoff Gabois’ team including Collin Storms, Jace Johnson and Darius Joseph placed 17th with a time of 2:12.31.
In the Europe Cup (EC) division of competition, sliding also resumed this week in Lillehammer, Norway with Men’s and Women’s Skeleton.
On the first day of competition in Men’s Skeleton, Nick Tucker placed 16th with a time of 1:45.88, Darryl Payne placed 22nd with a time of 1:46.81 and Bradley Nicol placed 25th with a time of 1:46.97. In Women’s Skeleton, Michelle Toukan placed 12th with a time of 1:47.96.
On the second day of competition, Nicol placed 20th with a time of 1:46.28, Tucker placed 23rd with a time of 1:46.56 and Payne placed 27th with a 1-run time of 53.46. In Women’s Skeleton, Toukan placed 14th with a 1-run time of 54:02.
Races in the World Cup division will resume in Lillehammer on January 21st, 2024.
