PARK CITY, Utah (November 20, 2021) – Sara Roderick (Truro, Mass.) and Savannah Graybill (Denver, Pa.) claimed silver and bronze medals, respectively, for Team USA in the Park City North American Cup skeleton races. Andrew Blaser (Meridian, Idaho) led the men’s team with two fourth-place finishes.

“It was great to be back on familiar ice,” Roderick said. “I really started my season in Whistler (Canada), so it was sweet to be back on home ice and be able to feel comfortable again. I never considered myself great at this track, so with things starting to click it makes it more fun to slide.”

Roderick was dominant at the start with the fastest push times of 4.93 and 4.97 seconds. She was in the lead after a first run of 50.09 seconds, but she fell back to Nicole Rocha Silveira from Brazil after clocking a second downtime of 50.90 seconds. Roderick claimed silver with a total time of 1:40.99, while Silveira was victorious in 1:40.77.

Graybill clocked the sixth best time of 50.56 seconds in the opening heat, but she moved into the medals with the third best time of 50.67 seconds in the final run. Graybill claimed bronze with a combined time of 1:41.23.

Roderick and Graybill did not race today as they prepare for the upcoming Intercontinental Cup races on the 2002 Olympic track next week. Leah Fair (Gaffney, S.C.) competed in only her third international race today, and finished 20th.

Silveira was victorious again with a combined time of 1:45.97. Alena Frolova from Russia claimed silver in 1:47.71, followed by Canadian Madison Charney in third with a 1:47.86.

“It’s been such a great group to work with this season and Caleb (Smith) has been awesome to work with,” Roderick said. “We’re excited to keep working towards the Intercontinental Cup later this week.”

Blaser continues to excel in the men’s skeleton competitions. He posted the third fastest times of both heats, 49.31 and 49.34 seconds, but a tie for second place pushed him into fourth. Felix Seibel from Germany was victorious in 1:38.30. Daniil Romanov from Russia and Lukas David Nydegger tied for second with a two-run total of 1:38.50. Blaser was fourth with a combined time of 1:38.65.

Daniel Barefoot (Johnstown, Pa.) finished ninth in 1:39,44, and Stephen Garbett (Parker, Colo.) was 14th with an aggregate time of 1:40.30. Rookie athlete Darryl Payne (Austin, Texas) was 31st.

Blaser was fourth again today with a total time of 1:43.35 after posting runs of 51.54 and 51.81 seconds. Garbett finished just behind his teammate in fifth with a two-run total of 1:43.81.

Seibel swept the men’s races after winning today with a cumulative time of 1:42.56. Romanov was able to nudge Nydegger out of the silver medal position with a total time of 1:42.98. Nydegger claimed bronze in 1:43.06.

Barefoot finished 11th in 1:46.06, and newcomer Bradley Nicol (Springville, Utah) finished 27th in his debut.

The Park City North American Cup continues this week with the start of bobsled races from November 23-24, and November 28-29.
