ALTENBERG, GERMANY (January 15, 2023) - On January 13, the IBSF World Cup began its Altenberg leg of the tour.
The headlining event was Kaillie Humphries winning her hundredth significant international bobsled medal after placing first in Women’s Monobob with a time of 1:57.92.
“It’s really awesome to know that I’ve had 100 top three finishes in major international competitions and that I’m still putting up podium finishes,” Humphries shared about her historic win. “I look forward to continuing with this sport for as long as I can. I’ve had a great career so far, and I will keep pushing myself, mentally and physically, for as long and as hard as I am able to”.
Humphries also medaled in 2-Woman Bobsled, where she and Jasmine Jones tied for 3rd with a time of 1:53.55.
Additionally for female athletes representing the USA, Nicole Vogt placed 10th in Women’s Monobob with a time of 2:01.64. In Women’s Skeleton, Kelly Curtis placed 9th with a time of 1:58.20, Kendall Wesenberg placed 17th with a time of 1:59.45, and Mystique Ro placed 19th with a time of 1:59.74.
In men’s athletics, Austin Florian had the two fastest start times of the Men's Skeleton competition. He finished 11th with a time of 1:53.88. Andrew Blaser also competed in this event, but after unfortunately crashing, he finished 21st.
“I’m very happy with how I pushed today!” Florian shared about his performance. “I’ve been working very hard on my push and get to compete with the best in the world and I’m happy with where I am. I am somewhat frustrated with how I drove today, had some mistakes today that I wish hadn’t snuck into the race, but we’re going to reset and start from scratch again next week”.
In Men’s Bobsled news, Frankie Del Duca is currently recovering from an injury and was therefore unable to compete.
The IBSF World Cup will continue in Altenberg on January 20.
