Dustin Greenwood was born in Charlottesville, Virginia on May 31, 1986. The native of Palmyra, Virginia has a Bachelor's of Science in sport management from Concord University and a Master's of Science in health promotions from Virginia Technical University. Dustin played wide receiver and quarterback at Concord University, where he also competed on the track and field team in the hurdles, javelin, long jump, 4x100 meters and decathlon. He was first introduced to the sport of bobsled by his boss at Elite Speed Sports Performance, Jim Hendricks. He started talking about finding something to train for. Jim had been recruited to the sport before and mentioned that Dustin and he start training for the team. He was also encouraged by his friend and skeleton athlete, Veronica Day.
